At risk of losing housing? We can help
Am I eligible?
Everyone is welcome to apply. While we will not ask about your immigration status, these guidelines help determine whether you qualify for the program:
- You live in Santa Clara County;
- Your household income is at a level that meets federal guidelines;
- You currently have housing but are at risk of losing housing in about 14 days due to a variety of reasons. For example: you are unable to pay upcoming rent, you received an eviction notice or you feel unsafe to remain in your current housing;
- You are at high risk of homelessness based on a short assessment questionnaire.
Schedule a pre-screening appointment
If you meet the eligibility criteria outlined above and want to find out if you qualify for the program, you can schedule a prescreening appointment.
What to expect at a pre-screening
- You will be interviewed and complete a questionnaire
- The appointment usually lasts between one to two hours.
- If you meet the initial requirements, you will be asked to provide documentation confirming your eligibility.
The documentation will include identification for everyone in your household, a lease agreement, income documentation for the past two months, and recent bills. A partner agency can provide more information and work with you on your individual situation.
The Homelessness Prevention System (HPS) program is administered by a network of 19 Santa Clara County-based non-profit organizations.
